I mean, $3k in parts to rebuild the engine isn’t *that* bad, and at least you get a ridiculously powerful motor out of the work.

My aunt had a first gen Toureg and it was a fantastic car but a maintenance nightmare. She switched to leased X5's after that.
I work in an industry where I respond to natural disasters among other things. I’ve attended many seminars on earthquakes and my mind always wonders to scenarios like this.
Owner: “Mopar, or no car.”
Is there any indication this was caused by a lack of infrastructure spending?
Now that’s a sinking feeling.
*David Attenborough voice* “Distraught and powerless to help, the elder Caravan watches in agony as its young is sucked into the deep abyss of the pit.”
Waggy’s Towing dragged the car out of the sinkhole
“WHOA SHIT, the earth just swallowed a whole van!”
Stow & Go
Dropping that motor must have been a real treat.
its scary how similar a fully optioned Toureg is to my E500 4matic. the only seperation between the two is the Vdub has more finite control over the ride height (benz only has 2 positions) and greater off road height. otherwise 4 zone climate, rear heated seats double air filtration (fresh is filtered and so is…
What ever you do, don’t forget to drain your rocker panels though.

My friend has one of these in white. I never paid much attention to the vehicle until he asked me to drop his wife and friends off at the airport for an Alaskan fishing trip last week. After I dropped them off, I started looking around at all the luxury items in that rig and was absolutely shocked! I drive a ‘15 Q50S…
Several of the lower-tech features here were also available on VW’s sub-$20k models of the time, which is why they were so well-known for their “surprise & delight” back then...at least until you had to take the car in for repairs:
We saw a few trade-ins of these for H2s and H3s and they were really fun to play with, but that interest was never hand-in-hand with the fear of actually owning this nightmare.
The same thing happened to a certain person whose name rhymes with Shulk Smogan who is probably best not mentioned on these sites. He was taking the cap off of his boat, apparently. Not the brightest french fry in the crayon box, there, brother.
Two thoughts- the cap says to not open while hot. Secondly, old cars with the metal caps have two detentes so that when you loosen the cap it doesn’t fly off like this one did. Would have kept this guy from burning his wrist.
