I agree. Most people say "Windows just works" and they mean "Windows factory installed is easier than installing Ubuntu from scratch"... Duh.

"But your honor, I should not be charged for half those miles. I was driving around the country on roads not taxed by San Francisco."

I probably will. I skipped Lion because none of the features were particularly compelling to me, but it looks like I can go straight to Mountain Lion, for less. At that rate, I am sure I can find something worth upgrading for.

I would love a setup like that. You are talking some serious cash to get it together though. Just a little bit more money and you can have yourself a desktop gaming rig. Maybe if Vidock decides to put out a thunderbolt model and avoid the need for an expresscard adaptor. Otherwise it is pretty niche.

Sadly, my last impression of the Linux exFAT driver is that it is not very good yet. I do wish Microsoft and Apple would consider including support for other file systems out of the box. I also wish Microsoft would consider opening up exFAT... Is there any good reason to keep it locked down like that? I suppose they

I don't know if bluetooth 4.0 would actually be an improvement over RFID for transit passes. In fact, I am not quite sure how such a technology would work. BT has no sense of proximity, to my knowledge, and the whole point of these applications would be to check that someone is at a particular gate with the pass.

Yeah, it is kind of ridiculous. It is even sillier when you consider that this article is almost entirely talking about people who know they are in high risk situations. It is unimaginable to me how cavalier someone could be with the possibility of contracting one of the worst communicable diseases of the modern era.

I feel like there is not enough good audio drama these days and there was certainly not enough Firefly. I would be really excited to follow this project, if they took a serious go at it.

220 MPH is not real high speed rail? What qualifies, in your opinion?

Yeah, I have some concerns over that. Looking at current Amtrak prices, it is often worth it to drive up if you can spare the time. Sometimes flying even seems like a fair economy, which is a bad sign.

I used Thunderbird for a long time. I even resisted using any webmail once it started to become popular and usable. I decided to try out Gmail for webmail for a while and found the labels to be indispensable. This basically killed Thunderbird for me, as the label system has not been reproduced well (that I have found

I am honestly having a hard time considering what spectroscopic information the TSA can collect that would particularly bother me. I am not worried about them investigating my breakfast, hygiene, or any of my bodily functions. Do you have a good example of something they can do with this that I should be all that

I think when you work in any of the science or engineering fields, you work with all sorts of old equipment. Which is funny, because people outside of those fields always seem to think we work only with the craziest cutting edge stuff.

I was once working in a small, enclosed lab space when someone put a specimen into a high temperature furnace and walked out. A specimen that had been soaking in ethanol. A little while later, the lab safety manager came in, took a sniff, and told me to get out. As I was feeling a little woozy at this point, I agreed.

I am a big fan of #3, but it would require some major mindset changes more than anything. It also depends on whether we are talking about going all out back-to-nature (Avatar) or simply focusing much of our future genetic and technological advancement on fitting into nature more.

I had a Razr as well. I really liked that phone. I did not give it up for an iPhone until the 3G (apps were a big selling point to me).

I lock exactly like that, and did it for a few years in New York City. I think that is about the best you can do. To get through that combo, someone would need some real hardware, and if that is the case there is not really a lock around that would improve your chances by much.

It is probably a very different piece of software. Because of the Apple restrictions on web rendering and other rules, it is more like a Safari plugin for syncing bookmarks with Google. Which is good. It was probably a lot easier to make, and also quite different. I would guess the resources devoted to it did not have

I find this super exciting. I have been hoping for this for a while. I am excited to be able to easily sync my bookmarks. Now if only we could select a default browser...

I feel the same way. It is also nice not relying on my smartphone battery for time, or even being able to check the time without carrying my smartphone.
