Yep, just noticed that :( Holding off on upgrading from Snow Leopard until Mountain Lion, but I will try to keep this in mind.

I was talking about letting the viewer see what was going on, not some sort of in-world advantage. We do not need to read all the words on the screen in Avengers, just see some pretty computer activity while Robert Downey Jr. looks good. This requires transparent screens.

The revealing nature is the reason the screens are transparent though. If you wanted to show activity on a screen that was realistic, you would have to look over a characters shoulder, which is not always ideal. With "futuristic" transparent screens you can look at the character's face while they work on a computer

The best is when you have one of those icing tools at your disposal so you can pipe it out in cool shapes. Failing that, I usually put the filling in a zip-lock bag and clip a small corner off. Definitely improves the experience.

I got a Macbook after my last Thinkpad (the first one made by Lenovo, actually) gave me all sort so f hardware problems a year in (bad design problems, like overheating). I looked at the market and said "Who still puts out high end hardware?" The only answer appeared to be Apple. I figured if I hated OS X, I could

Re: Jericho

If you live in NYC, you might notice that Dominos stays open for delivery just a smidge later than most traditional pizza places. Unfortunately, that can make the difference on a drunken night, at which point Dominos becomes a godsend.

I think part of the idea is that we can have the "convertible" laptop reborn. This thing will act as a tablet way better than convertible laptops used to, and it still leaves room to put it down on a table and type. There is definitely a market for that, as evidenced by the popularity of all the convertible laptops

Ah, I suppose my statement was worded unclearly. I intended to say that the activity described was illegal, not the drug itself. That is what I get for using bad grammar

You can probably up the intimidation factor a bit by adding a grenade launcher... I am pretty sure there is one for that gun, but you do not want to show up in a YouTube video with one unless you are deployed.

It is actually not legal. It is a restricted prescription drug. It is illegal to get it without a prescription, and it is illegal for a doctor to write frivolous prescriptions. Someone, somewhere is breaking the law if she can just go pick up some oxycodone and get high.

From the numbers in this article, I would say no. Depending on where it strikes, losses might be minimal... But if it went down anywhere near anything populated, casualties could be quite high. I am unsure how closely they will be able to predict the impact site, but even if we could evacuate everyone we are looking

I think Calibri is supposed to be better in screen readability, but they probably close enough to make the issue moot. I mostly prefer it for the stylistic differences.

Not by name, but that does not mean it does not have an effect on them. I like Helvetica, but I rarely use it. It tends to be a bit over-used, which is what the author is getting at (I think).

1 in 500 may sound like good odds for us, but considering large asteroid impacts I still don't really like those odds. At 100 megatons, this would be roughly twice the strength of the largest nuclear bomb ever detonated.

I was working in a poorly organized management structure recently. The amount of time wasted on meetings was not huge, but it always came at the beginning or end of the day, and almost always included large amounts of off topic discussion. This had a tendency of eating into both my productive time and my personal time.

Yeah, I am debating how I feel about this: On the one hand, it looks awesome. Assuming it lives up to it's potential I would consider ditching my iPad for one of these. On the other hand, will this become the only Windows tablet? Who wants to compete with this?

I am with you on that. I am not sure whether a stylus would become an important tool for me when using a tablet, but I can see it being important for some people. I would at least like to try it a bit and see if I can find value in it.

I forget where I saw it, but there is an explanation that makes this more viable:

While I generally agree with your opinion, I do notice that you made a key mistake: You are assuming that development (of culture and technology) will proceed at a similar pace in other organisms. It is entirely possible that some the phases of development that we have "breezed through" in a few thousand years might
