Seriously... I am wearing a black belt right now that I bought for $30, I think (hard to remember, it was a long time ago). I wear it quite often, and it looks rather nice, and I have no idea how much more real it would be if I spent 3x more on it.

Yeah, I fenced for a while and got the same impression. If you spend any time holding a foil or epee, you realize right away that what works for those "weapons" would not work for any of the actual swords you see in museums.
I used to have one of those. They are all over sporting goods stores these days, check the camping section. I know REI always has some (there are companies that sell titanium versions too).
Not long enough. Send him back into the forest; once he is 30 with no background he'll be perfect.
I suppose you and I might just have different perspectives on the history of scientific discovery. I think it is good to have some researchers out on the fringes of every field trying to prove things that seem like nonsense. Every once in a while one of them might be right, and when that happens it saves the…
There is one problem with that attitude: If artificial panspermia turns out to be true, it is entirely possible we would never discover how life formed. We might be focusing our investigation on an environment where life would never have formed.
There is probably a fine market for this, but it is not me. I have a 13" MacBook Pro, and I have upgraded the ram and hard drive. I might do so again before I get rid of it. I think $1000 might be my limit for this sort of thing. An iPad or low end MacBook Air is appealing to me, a computer over $2000 is going to…
No one knows, but I am sure Google will submit one sooner or later. Hopefully Apple lets it through (maybe it will even be more feature rich than the current maps implementation!)
Most likely not. I missed the teardown, but I know in the Air they do not use a standard SATA form factor or connection. Which makes sense, as that form factor takes up more space than it needs to for an SSD. It is more of an SSD on a chip. I do not know if the interface is at all standardized for those SSD, but I…
It is not wholly uncommon. Depending on the application, it can make sense to drill with a lathe, which looks like what they are doing here. It might be something else though, I am not a machining expert.
Well, they are getting that bit from Apple themselves. As an iPhone 4 owner, I hope it stays that way, but it is possible Apple just did not restrict it properly in the dev release (which is almost worse, because it proves it works).
I am a big fan of Pandora. Sometimes their music selection algorithm throws me for a loop, but for the most part I am very happy with their service.
Hah! I was just thinking the same thing "Well, one way to find out..."
Current "alarm clock" apps require that the app be open all night for the alarm to go off properly. The current multi-tasking implementation does not allow for apps to wake up and activate. Apple could allow apps to stay alive long enough for this work, but that would be counter to their views on multi-tasking. The…
It might not be useful for any current apps, but it would allow for all sorts of alarm apps to be made. Maybe one that will read the news or weather? Or maybe you can have it start Pandora or the Music app (I still miss being able to wake to a playlist, something I used to use my old [circa 2003] iPod for...)
That is the first concise explanation of this feature that I have seen. Thanks.
Well, the brain currently grab all sorts of input and turns it into a cohesive world-view. An added input may not directly add visualization of new colors, but you should be able to increase awareness of things you could not see before.
I do not think I would ever be accepting of a network connected implant of any sort. Connect my brain to outside sources? No thanks, I have been in computer security and the thing you learn fast is no system is safe.
My mistake, I was under the impression they had only added it to the 13" model.
I like the interface planning on that.
