Ugh... Once I made this glorious plate of fudge and thought I had it safely tucked away. My family's dog managed to get into it in the night, and it was not fun. At 14 kg, a couple of pounds of fudge was probably enough to do some real damage. Luckily, biology is used to this kind of thing. That dog spent a few hours…
What a lot of people seem to be missing is that this paper is not saying there is no life on other planets; it is saying that there is an unscientific bias in the majority of papers discussing the topic.
Sadly, even traveling the speed of light it would be a 4 year journey (one way). We still do not even know that we can design a ship well enough to let humans survive such a journey. Although, if we find a habitable planet within that kind of range, it would certainly be worth the effort.
I believe it was supposed to pass the Empire State Building some time in the past month. It is probably past that point now.
I am not sure, but I think California law is not the only thing stopping them. Basically, any state with such a law would be a problem. I think they can avoid it by just not including people in those states, but that cripples the plan quite a bit. There is also some issue regarding the FCC and lottery laws, I think,…
I was thinking the same thing: I would rather take the train. In the US we do have the Amtrak up and down each coast. The price can be a bit much sometimes, but you get to avoid the airports and take as much luggage as you want. It is also a much more pleasant trip.
I really want a long tail, and have for a while. I have a mid-90s Trek 820 that is just begging to be restored and hooked up to a Free Radical, but I have not had the time or money to set aside for it yet.
Again: Any evidence from a reliable source? Surely the EU governments that instated these bans have been investigating. Why do I only find anti-GM websites when I look for the information? I am not saying it cannot be true, I am saying I see no available evidence to back up the claims, which is important if people are…
So, I hate Monsanto as much as the next guy, but is there a reliable source for the accusation that they are causing colony collapse disorder? All I can find are some very unprofessional looking statements from anti-GM groups. It seems Poland banned Monsanto corn for some link here, but I can find no information about…
Depends on when you ask... I have a 13" Macbook, which is 1280x800, but when I am at home at my desk (most of the time) I have it plugged into a 21" monitor which is 1680x1050.
I have a lot of doubt that they can do this profitably. That being said, it is super cool, and I have no desire to dissuade them from trying.
I always took that "seeing all time" thing less literally. More of a "because of our technology we see all time". This might imply that not all Observers have access to this technology, at least not all the time.
Number 1 definitely had me wondering. It leaves some possibilities for the future, although one point left me confused there: The fringe team seemed to be our fringe team, but they had the logo of the fringe team from over there.
I have a similar view. Whenever I find myself running out of storage, I first go through my system and delete everything unnecessary. I have yet to reach the limits of this tendency, to the point that I have under 400 GB of data at I takes pains to preserve.
It is possible they are not going to make a flexible device, but one in which the screen is curved or wrapped in some way. This screen would make that much easier to produce than trying to somehow build a rigid screen curved in the manner you want.
I would say there is something besides entertainment at work here: Functionality.
I wish I were a professional graphic designer so I could justify upgrading my Intuos 3... Wacom must be loving the whole touch explosion; it gives them a very clear (and desirous) upgrade path for a little while.
Notable option: I use Parallels desktop to run my Boot Camp partition as a VM when I want Windows quickly and do not need the performance. It is kind of an amazing feature, as you can have the exact same environment whether you are rebooting or virtualizing, depending on your needs.
My first thought was the subway.
