There’s some great standalone episodes, but even then, it helps if you’re familiar/have a fondness for the characters already.

This is a good take, because as much as I adore del Toro, his Spanish language films are far superior to his Hollywood output. He’s one of my favorite directors, but I can’t really disagree with Dowd.

Re: Jason Ritter

I wish The Event had lasted longer. It was a pretty shameless riff on Lost, but it was better than it had any right to be and Ritter was good in it.

I don’t care about the specific people getting married, but as a lover of history and ritual (I’m an anthropologist), I do love that England still goes all out with their royal weddings. It’s a remnant of a previous era, and I do think there’s value in keeping the tradition going.

I don’t think they have the rights for it. My understanding is that the Tolkien estate will never give up the rights for Silmarillion, because of the personal nature of the material. It was the first thing J.R.R. Tolkien started writing, and he died before finishing, so his son Christopher completed it based on his

This guy Tolkiens.

That FBI show looks WAY too serious.
Also, granted I know nothing about explosives, but I don’t think 6 grenades would bring down a whole building.

He took a peek at his Dorian Gray painting by accident.

Not really “in front of someone,” but recently I was staying at my brother’s apartment and woke up in desperate need to take a shit. Unfortunately, my brother was in the only bathroom taking a shower. So I grabbed an empty pizza box from the night before, put some paper towels down, and proceeded to return the

I vaguely remember that Snowcrash was getting adapted, but I must have missed the Ringworld news. That’s pretty cool, but I’d rather have a series of movies than a long series.

Huh, weird. Sounds like Syfy just made a terrible deal, expecting Expanse to be some kind of Game of Thrones-like hit.

Those execs are...not smart.

“lesser extent”

Interesting. Didn’t know all that, but now I’m puzzled in a different way. If they weren’t financing it in any way (aside from maybe marketing), the show would be significantly cheaper than I originally thought. I figured they were losing money because of production costs, but would still grit their teeth and renew

I can’t remember which press junket it was, but I remember there being at least 1 late night talk show appearance where he seemed pretty drunk.

He might have a slight drinking problem, but at least he doesn’t appear to be a mean drunk.

Damn, I didn’t think SyFy had the balls to cancel this. It might be expensive as hell based on the killer effects, but it’s arguably their best show since Battlestar Galactica.

After this and the Dark Matter cancellation, SyFy is dead to me. (Magicians is still good, but I’ll just watch the next season on Netflix when

It’s actually more accurate than most time travel shows, to the point that The Smithsonian has been reviewing the episodes all season

Heh, yeah. I’m waiting for one of the inmates to brag about his kill count in some attempt to intimidate her, only for Clarke to explain how she’s slaughtered a few hundred by this point.

Side Note: That’s some of the greatest midriff I’ve ever laid eyes on.

That’s...not really how it’s supposed to work. You suspend disbelief for the duration of a movie/book/video game etc. If the work is created with enough verisimilitude, then that suspension holds and the world is completely realized.

It doesn’t matter that I know enough about storytelling to realize that most of the
