That’s a big assumption he is getting a pension. They are all but completely gone in the US. My father who just retired was earning around $150k a year. His social security from the government is around $2000 a month, which is a lot for social security. He relies on his investments and 401k for income so he is lucky.

People clean up murder scenes because it pays really well. If you pay well enough then people will do the job. However, I do think that UBI is something that is another 20 years or so off until automation can do the role cheaper and faster.

I think we could possibly see a second Renaissance if universal income came into being. Yes there will be people who choose to do nothing, but just think of the creative output people could generate in music, writing, art, science etc if they weren’t exhausted after a 8+ hour work day and the worry of the next…

I’m going to go to grad school in 2019 to get my Masters in Social Work so I can do therapy. It’s one of the few jobs that won’t be replaced by machines/AI in the future and something that will grow even more needful
