The movie itself wasn’t great, though it was highly entertaining. The performances by the cast were great, though. I mean, if the Danish Girl can get nominated for anything, then so can Straight Outta Compton. And The Danish Girl wasn’t even that entertaining. It was just Oscar bait bullshit. Eh.

Nope, he was great in I Am Legend, but the Academy doesn’t do movies that aren’t prestige dramas or barely-comedies.

If Charlotte-Douglas is purgatory, then Hartsfield-Jackson has to be Hell b/c maaaaaaaaaaaaaan............

All of this is fine, but it is peak snobbery. And that’s fine, too

I don’t really comprehend that level of snobbery, tbh. But if it works for you, then that’s cool. I, too, am a fan of movies, but I tend to watch a variety of films, regardless of what critics have to say. But I like to make up my own mind b/c critics are not infallible in my mind. It works for me, at least. Eh.

I disagree. Jason Mitchell was fantastic in SoC, though the Best Supporting Actor category is pretty stacked. Mark Ruffalo, as much as I love him, is the weakest performance in that category with Stallone coming in a close second. Replacing either with Jason Mitchell, Idris Elba, or evern Oscar Isaac (who was unreal

Jennifer Lawrence nor Eddie Redmayne deserved their nominations. Michael Fassbender didn’t deserve a nomination for this role (he deserved one for Shame, but whatever). Mark Ruffalo wasn’t event he best performance in his movie. So, yeah. There ARE performances that didn’t warrant any nominations but they still got

The thing about Straight Outta Compton: most of the reviews thought the movie tried to encompass too much in a basic 2hr format. HOWEVER, I have yet to read a review that didn’t praise Jason Mitchell’s performance.

This is a really good start, especially since it’s targeting the voter base, which is definitely part of the problem. The fact that they are pretty much changing how one gets “lifetime voting rights” is a pretty big deal.

Oh, he’s definitely earned his spot. He even went to school for film (at UCLA, no less). So, I’m not mad. It’s just that nepotism has been a thing since Hollywood really began and he’s an example of it.

It’s pretty disingenuous to only cite the last 20 years when the Oscars is 85 years old. But, sure. Pick and choose to try to prove your point. I notice you didn’t include any “statistics” to prove that Asian-American, Latino-American, Native American’s are well represented, and please understand: #OscarsSoWhite is

You’re just becoming more aware. Hollywood has always been about who you know and if that who is a parent, then the sky is the limit. Shoutouts to Rob Reiner.

But the root cause of THIS particular crime is simple: abuse of power, hypersexualization of Black women, general dehumanization of Black people.

I mean, George W. Bush was no angel and he managed to run a country for a while, so... there ya go.

You gotta go...

This broad really does the most and I don’t have the time nor the inclination to entertain her bullshit. So.

I laughed and I’m mad about it.

Pink was being petty about that one. Linda thought Christina’s voice was better suited (and it was) and Pink got mad about it. That was some quintessential “not sharing my toys” bullshit. You don’t see Christina getting pissy about Sia working with everybody and their mamas.

Jason Mitchell was so good, man. But he could’ve gone either way with Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, especially since the Best Actor category, besides Leo, is weak this year.
