In the sarcastic words of Kate Beaton:
She cut her hair off right after finishing Divergent because she's starring in the Fault in Our Stars movie next. Actually donated the hair to one of the "hair for cancer patients" charities, which was pretty cool of her.
But that's the thing ... most people don't THINK about the word being gender-weighted and yet they still tend to use it against women and men they think are acting effeminately. So whether or not it was a conscious choice of words doesn't matter to me - it's still messed up.
My tolerance for "hearing out the other side" goes down reaaaally quickly when they start throwing around gender-biased words like "hysterical" to describe the woman calling them out.
You know, the schadenfreude spirit in me is actually getting gleeful thinking about laughing at the bigots who will rant about this movie because haha, it's already been made and there's nothing you can do about it! *gets out popcorn*
Actually yeah, that would have been good. Of course I was watching Parks and Rec last night and it was an episode with Tammy 2 in it, so her penchant for horrible people is fresh in my mind.
Yeah, Diaz seems to be the weak link in the cast so far, but I'm doing my best not to compare her too much to Burnett. Plus we've seen just a few clips from her and it's possible that the performance works better in context. Too optimistic? Probably, but I did like that line she had about getting a taste of something…
Exactly. It makes a lot of sense in a modern adaptation.
Just the other day I read about an app that reminds you to do something nice for your significant other, which seems like a little less shady of an idea. It's not that the app would do all the work for you, but just remind you to put in the extra effort yourself.
"floppy, happy, kind of boring guy who just wants to have fun and doesn't mean to hurt anyone in the process."
I guess the "submit to each other" thing could be you know, respect each other and be equally humble. But yeah, maybe we can use the thesaurus and find another word that isn't so connected with BDSM in the modern usage.
I got into a bit of trouble last month when I saw one too many "shared" articles and pictures from my mom who follows awful right-wing Facebook groups and that frustration led me to snippily reply to my mom because I just couldn't stop my fingers from typing a response (it included calling the super bowl coke…
I think it's run-off from prohibition. "Okay, you can have alcohol, but no buying it on Sunday because it's the Lord's Day!" Which is adorable when you're Catholic. But yeah, I'm in Indiana and we're a dry state on Sundays. They put a rope around the liquor sections of grocery stores and everything.
I guess the silver lining is that it's promoting men being responsible for birth control along with women? Even if it's in the bro-iest way possible.
I didn't watch this season (or any of them, actually), but I did catch the clip where the one contestant's dad pointed out that Juan Pablo was technically dating three women and the only way he'd give his blessing is if Juan Pablo came to him and specifically said that he could only see himself with the man's…
You'd think this would be an older profession at this point it's so simple!
Also why are we as a culture so ready to dismiss a female writer for taking up too much success? Why Rowling as compared to Stephen King or James Patterson or any of the male writers who have written dozens and dozens of novels that could arguably push aside new writers on the bookshelves? Not that I think this…
Who else is bracing themselves for the comments pointing out that "feminists are just as bad because there are mean man-hating feminists out there!"? Can't wait.
