I feel like a bunch of people are missing the point.

1) Why would he want his trade value to be high? Those are assets that go to the team he’s leaving, not the one he’s joining and certainly not to him. If anything, once you grant that everybody is approaching this in those kinds of terms, he’d want his trade value to be low, so that the team he joins wouldn’t be

Yep. People only like football to the extent that it’s being played by their favorite NFL team/local college/town’s high school. There’s a reason it hasn’t really caught on outside the US—no one gives a shit about the Golden Dome or the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field.

The problem isn’t the NFL, none of these products are designed to the compete with the NFL. The problem here is College Football. That’s who these products are competing with.

I have discussed this with Neil a few times already, and I have some strong opinions as a former Rays season ticketholder, former St. Pete resident, and current Tampa resident.

Theory No. 7: Would-be fans spend 97% of their disposable income on mirrored Oakleys, Jimmy Buffet paraphernalia, Valtrex and stickers of Calvin pissing on things.

If you want to start exclusively from the point where the trade happened, looking forward, maybe there’s a sliver of a point in there. You’d also be ignoring the years of massive discord and organizational dysfunction which got them there in the first place.

Oh my GOD I’m so fucking sick of this narrative. All Lebron wants is to win the finals every year in a place he wants to be with the players he wants at the exact moment he wants them. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK

But this truly is the discourse in 2019, ain’t it?

I think this is the right take. He deserves admiration and respect for what he’s done on and off the court, even if he is a bit mercurial from time to time. But at 30 years old he ought to know by now that this is the game. Thankfully there won’t be all that much media scrutiny in New York, so I will remain blithely co

So what good is the cap space this deal would give the Pelicans if no one wants to take it?

forcing their hand in a way that leaves them with far less in return than they should be getting

I’m not sure people wanted to play for them BEFORE this debacle.

After THIS, you say?
