I think perhaps the idea is to not be afraid to fail.

@orlo: Hey, I just saw that movie this weekend. :)

I think you have to be living in a mountain cave not to know what Twitter is.

I work in engineering. Engineers don't send fuzzies to each other.

I think part of the secret of turning a hobby into a job is to retain control over it. When someone else is telling you how to do your hobby, it's less fun; but if you're telling yourself how to do your hobby, it's more rewarding on its own.

This only includes those panels that you normally have to go into Administrative Tools for; it doesn't really allow access to all control panels, or provide quick access to those nested control items.

Is this not exactly what Active Desktop can do? Add a local text file to your desktop under Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web. New, Browse, enter file name, (ignoring the fact that the file doesn't show up in the window).

There's no point in putting of regular expenses. Like No Gas Day, postponing something from one day to another has no effect on the economy because the same amount of purchasing is going to happen.

Linky no worky.

Unfortunately nobody actually has one.

My solution to the XBox 360 networking question was to get a cheap or used Linksys WRT54G home router, install DD-WRT on it, and configure it for client bridge mode, plug the 360 into it, which sees it as a normal old 10/100 wired Ethernet connection.

#4 for the win. Why should money-chasing yuppies hoard SUVs if they have no value and aren't going to drive them? Pack-rattery? Still like how they look in the driveway? Hoping gas will return to $1/gal before the suspension rusts away?

Back arrow and Backspace don't do the same thing... Backspace goes up a directory but back arrow goes to the last folder you viewed, a la a web browser. Sure, those are often the same thing, but woe to you who uses the wrong key when it's not :)

flickr, not only for its Organizr (the Map is my favorite) but also for its platform-independency and API openness and developer community.

@jczarni: RTFA. Uh, the relevant part of which is here.

Saving electricity by turning off your game console when it's not being used is not only a way to save on the electric bill, it's also a way to keep the unit from overheating (prime cause of the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death). Wish I could get the kids to remember that.

Bah, skip the job hunt and become a successful blogger instead. Then none of those things matter.

The one I used to preview this story: iGoogle (w/ greader box and custom news boxes, etc.)

You didn't specify OS.

I kind of figure having to stand out in the cold and rain is penalty enough.
