You can get the really small car experience in a HELL of a lot better small car by buying a used Fit for the price of a new Mirage.

The blanket will limit the spread of the fire, but it won’t put it out - it just buys time to get the resources to deal with it properly per the Autopian article. Battery fires do not need oxygen, so they can’t be smothered. And for a fire like this, by the time the fire department gets there with the blanket it’s too

Indeed, if you are going to go broke on the maintenance, you might as well start with an extra $20K in your pocket.

If you want something like this, get a much newer Jag F-type for the same money. Just as pretty, probably faster, and a HELL of a lot cheaper to run.

Or a much newer F-type for the same money.

This car might be a NP for the fool that wants one - but my mama didn’t raise no fool. ND.

Nope, not even with a stick. There is just this stench of tacky about modern Maseratis that I can’t get past. ND. Waaaay too “gold chain and slicked back hair set”. A Jaguar convertible is cheaper to buy and cheaper to run, and just has a lot more class if you want something a bit out of the German ordinary.

It’s nice. The whole area is really, but I imagine it’s not that much different, so unless you have a reason why bother?

And pay the price along the way. Upfront, in maintenance, and in gas. No thanks. Pointless.

Well, you are invited to kiss mine. And I like a bit of tongue.

Cultist? I fucking HATE Tesla. But I also call a spade a spade, and Tesla has some of the best crash safety engineering in the industry. That is a simple fact and well-proven in the real world. I very much doubt they skipped that part for this thing. As I said, I very much doubt it is any less safe than any other

I had the misfortune to get picked up in one by a Lyft driver for my hour long ride home from the airport one time (I stick to Uber Premium or Black now). Dear God, they are just incredibly awful on the highway. I had a splitting headache by the time I got home, and the ride was terrible too. I will give credit to a

And nothing of value is lost. In what universe is that turd better than the newest used Corolla or Civic you can buy for the same price? The value proposition just isn’t there for a Mirage.

And you are entitled to your opinion. They are like assholes. Everyone has one, and the other guy’s always stinks. <shrug>

I completely agree with that assessment!

Absolutely true - but if you have a bunch of weight, and particularly a bunch of weight up high, like in say, a CUV, you are going to need stiff springs AND stiff dampers, AND stiff anti-roll bars to control the body motions. As I have said before, for a given level of technology, you can make a tall heavy car handle

On this, I agree with you. And doing ride share on personal insurance IS no insurance at all. Uber/Lyft should make the drivers prove they have proper insurance with realistic liability limits - aka not state minimums, which are a joke. But I don’t think they do. IIRC they can buy some pretty crappy coverage from them.

If you spend the money on excellent quality control, sure, you can build nice stuff in China. But based on my experience with it, that QC will cost you more there. And if you let your attention slip, you will get crap in a way that simply doesn’t happen in the US or Europe. I help out a friend who has equipment built

I’ll be in a nice cold datacenter for most of it, other than back and forth to my hotel/restaurants/airport.

meaningless. You aren’t keeping yourself still in a crash, and all that likely means is that Tesla is using a stretchier seat belt and expecting the air bag to absorb more force. Which is advantageous in preventing seat belt injuries.
