I feel ya...hang tight!

I was intimidated by both of these - not necessarily by the gameplay but by the community. Ultimately, I found one that I really enjoy and that's Waystone Game's DAWNGATE. It's fantastic. And I feel like I have a firm grasp of the gameplay, and have found myself really enjoying the community.
