I think this is a case where personal preference plays a huge role. VI has an external story that happens around the characters, whereas VII has an internal story that happens to the characters. Strong disagree. Still think it holds up. Story and characters are still significantly better than VIII (We all grew up together at an orphanage and the witch lived with us as well, but she’s not really the main antagonist, this third act other space witch is - the end).

Maybe. But I’ve read the book and while it’s good, I don’t think it’s the sort of light reading that really would benefit from movie fans. It’s a dense academic tome that won the Pulitzer Prize for nonfiction.
