LaBelle and Hoffman are really young for those parts, aren’t they? Michaels was 31 and Ebersol was 28. Labelle and Hoffman are both barely over 20, and really look that age.

God..Junction sounds like the 10 other shows made in the last 2 years about this opiod crisis. “Told through 3 perspectives - A CEO, A doctor, and a patient”. So...it’s Dopesick, or Painkiller, or Pain Hustlers, or...
Industry execs don’t have that power though. They try it all the time and fail and then try to bury the actor (see: Taylor Kitsch).
“just stick that on it’s chest, it will look good”
Look, Gervais went from a decade of regurgitating the same anti-religion jokes, to now making the same anti-cancel culture jokes. He’s been a hack for so long. Anyone who hasn’t caught on by now is the mark, they just haven’t realized it yet.
And is that even a joke? I mean, Superman’s disguise is taking his glasses off. How is changing your boots all that different, or “funny” enough for a comedian of his talent?
Yes! It was just bad writers mostly. I remember all the talk about reducing episode count, and then “The Defenders” came out, 8 episodes, and it still sucked. Maybe the problem isn’t episode counts, the problem is shitty writers? Or overworked show runners not allowed to hire full writing teams?
Funny to keep using Doctor Who as a “right way” since the show went from 14 episodes in the early Davies/Moffatt era, to 8 episodes by the time Jodi’s run was done...and this season is going to be 8 episodes again! I wish the Disney money was used for more episodes rather than better special FX.
Bay has some entertaining movies that I don’t think are “hack” movies though. The Rock just works as an excellent 90's action movie....and uh...he made some good music videos.
Yes, was coming here to say the same thing. Wife and I loved it, the mix of action and comedy and drama (well, not that much...but there was some!) was so well done. Reminded me of “Preacher”. Not too many shows can hit all those different notes.
Fury Road had one of the best trailers ever...this is not that. I’m still excited for the movie, but this was a boring trailer.
I should have said “I loved the movie...up to that point, and then it went to shit”
I feel like i’ve seen this story too much recently, so I think I’ll pass (hell, even House of Usher was about a family pushing their version of Oxy!).
Agreed!! I loved the movie, it felt personal to Tarantino, like him grappling with his own place in a changing hollywood. And then...beating the shit out of a woman and flamethrowers. It just felt like a copout on his part. Like he felt too raw and exposed so he had to go for the thrill and the laugh.
It’s clear Tarantino is retiring early because he knows not everyone has realized he’s become more and more one note and afraid of committing to something with real feeling. He can do it...but he’s too child like and has to hide behind flamethrowers and ultra violence.
One thing I get a kick out of mentioning every episode to my wife is “why are the CEO and the guy buying this giant company that owns TV networks, news operations, and movie studios, so concerned with what the morning fluff news show thinks about everything?”
My bladder can’t take it. I watched the Irishman in theaters, and I timed my break for that weird little side quest De Niro took to panama I think? It seemed ancillary to the plot, so i figured i wouldn’t miss much. I should rewatch the movie though to finally see that 3 minutes I missed.
Did they though? It kind of felt like a totally organic and perfect time and place to end it. If they did cancel it against the wishes of the show runner...i think they did the right thing. They gave him a last season to “end it” properly, and it never overstayed its welcome.
Too bad he doesn’t look for that quality much anymore (I’m not versed in the whose who of Netflix, maybe Hastings as the founder of the company is more hands off in this stuff than he used to be?)
I don’t think the number ever mattered. “The Defenders” was 8 episodes and still sucked. It’s just how Netflix makes shows. the “hey, make it a long movie” just doesn’t work for 3 or 4 or 8 or 10 or 13 episodes.
