I wish Cavill ignored the voice actors work instead of aping it. Do your own thing, you’re a great actor! I’m trying to imagine Kiefer Sutherland imitating the original Snake voice for MGS5...it would be hilarious! Glad he didn’t though.

Memento - told backwards in discreet chunks of time

Probably true, but having one person write them all and be involved in all 3 allowed him to generally have a coherent throughline in the movies. He wasn’t retconning things every movie. He didn’t have Vader tell Luke he was his father only to have him say “lol, just kidding” in “Return of the Jedi”.

Right, i mean, when the family used sound so effectively against the Aliens, real logic would say “duh, of course that would work and why didn’t the army use sound blasters on them too?”  It’s a movie that only works if you don’t think about anything other than what is on the screen at that exact moment.

That’s something that was really lacking from teh new trilogy. I’m not a SW fan really, I’ve seen them all but I don’t “care” about them, but at least the first and second trilogy had visible through lines that told a coherent if messy story, becasue Lucas was guiding them all. This new trilogy is just a mess because

Uh...did you watch the movie? When Poe makes the decision at the end it’s hammered home how much of a change it is, with Leia giving him decision making authority and smirking at it all. The only people who would miss the character change are people who fell asleep during the movie.  The Last Jedi is a lot of things,

Ah yes, only white characters in a movie are a real choice, hiring an asian is always pandering!

Probably, but if he commits to being the guy in charge of an entire trilogy, that probably takes a decade of his time up completely, and suddenly he’s pushing 60 before he gets back to his original ideas.  Taika Waititi seems to be doing it smarter, “one for you, one for me”. I just hope Johnson doesn’t get bogged

He wasn’t wrong, but he also wasn’t appreciating the pressure we were under to give ardent fans a film that felt quintessentially Star Wars.”

Nolan goes on to describe the film as being his “biggest in terms of international reach,” saying that the “large-scale production” shot in seven countries with a number of set pieces. “There’s no question, it’s the most ambitious film we’ve made,” he declares.

Even Cameron, before he became obsessed with making only Avatar sequels, was doing these original big budget things. I kind of hope Riann Johnson watches the new Star Wars, sees it as a “Fuck you”, and leaves the franchise completely to focus on his own weird little things. Or weird big things. Just get out while you

Agreed. And honestly, I’d rather someone just goes for it, puts it all out there, then plays it safe. Nolan does that, even if some of the philosophy is hacky (Interstellars “power of love”...I love that movie even if I admit that stuff was awkward!)

I’m going to guess he means just in terms of traveling around the world to film it. I doubt a spy movie will be more ambitious than “Interstellar” story wise, or the folding dream heists of “Inception”. But I’m very much looking forward to this, Nolan is one of the only directors allowed to make whatever the hell he

It was like the least subtle story telling you will find. That you didn’t see it says a lot about you...none very good.

“ctrl-z”

Maybe when they started they should have decided on a complete story so that you didn’t have this situation where the director is undoing the work of the previous movie in such a hacky fashion. Palpatine’s resurrection is so out of left field and so obviously a redo on Snoke that it’s a joke.

If JJ was so intent on

I will disagree that the later stuff was better (payoffs that never came, gah...I watch an action movie like MI:Fallout, which does a perfect job of setup/payoff, and then watch something like Rogue One that just fails at that all over the place and it annoys me...probably too much), but I at least am glad you give it

As a viewer, not book reader, I am left saying “uh...he had an arc?” Sad how that played out. I can imagine in my head how it could be a great arc of redemption, but the show didn’t build it at all.

This show could have used an episode or two of world building early on to give the bear fight any emotion at all. It just didn’t have it. I should have cared that good bear killed bad bear..but I didn’t. I should have cared about anything, but I didn’t.  I’m thinking back to GoT, when the guy was fighting to avenge

The fact that Rogue One, a movie that is barely a movie has an over 80% user score shows how broken star wars fans ratings are. What a mess of a movie, but i suppose it had the right amount of fan service at the end.
