Me too. But this might be the impetus needed to get some reform done. Two all important questions have been raised. How did someone with a criminal background for felony assault purchase an AR-15 just 6 days before the shooting? And how did someone with a known record for mental instability buy that weapon?

I would just like to point out that I have been othered in my time, and did not go out and buy a gun to shoot up a grocery store. We can separate his mental illness from the question of his race and still hold him accountable.

Understood. Had this whole conversation a week or two ago about Sharon Osborne defining Meghan Markle. The problem is that you end up with folks falling into the cracks, where they are not Black enough (or POC enough) to be defended by that community, but to colorful for the racists to ignore.

That is a good example of the ignorance racists are known for: racists think they get to define a person’s racial identity, and that what that person thinks about themselves is null and void. Then they get all upset when a Black person calls them white! Chile, the stupid just goes on and on...

I will point out that the racists sure as hell don’t see him as white. They gleefully point out that he is a Syrian immigrant, and therefore he is OTHER (passing completely over the part that he emigrated with his family when he was 2, and has spent 19 years of his life here).

One thing I do quibble with is that you didn’t highlight the fact that it was white people who also ended COINTELPRO.

White is an anti-race... everyone ELSE can be identified and stereotyped by race. Which is ironic considering that the creation of whiteness as an exclusionary club is the origination of race, and thus ‘white’ was the original race.
