No, they massively impacted their chances. If the 76ers had pursued a normal rebuilding strategy two years ago and signed real basketball players, they could probably be in the playoffs right now. Tanking cost their fans 20 plus wins, as well as at least four playoff games.

While they share some similarities, these are fundamentally different issues. The general problem I (I’m not going to speak for all of Deadspin here, though obviously a number of writers have similar feelings) have with what the 76ers are doing is mostly twofold:
