No! Self-respecting sociology students do not snivel and excuse violence against women in the name of culture. Total conflation there. Well, they might snivel, but that probably doesn't have anything to do with sociology. I hope.

I'm about to start a PhD in Sociology, and I find that almost every article on this site

Well, it likely has something to do with the fact that women in general in many of these laws aren't given agency or autonomy, and so the idea of 'willful' and 'forced' doesn't really apply. When you think of someone like an object, their internal intentions probably matter little to you (if you acknowledge they exist

HEY.

Me too, which is why I have no American friends! Or Canadian. It's lonely around here.

Clitori?

Vaginae. YES.

Whether or not Depp's Tonto reimagines or somehow forgives the caricature his character seems to paint, we must acknowledge that the number of people who see THE TRAILER will far exceed the number of people who see the movie. That's just the way it goes.

Yes! This! Thank you!

I keep seeing in advice columns lately (um, I have no explanation for myself) that if your partner isn't willing to share finances with you, dump him, he must have secrets. Usually these are middle-aged women complaining that their husbands keep things separate, but still. What you are saying here

I think it's more the concept of her breasts that might impact her perceived sex appeal, rather than them actually looking different (or worse). Having beautiful real breasts is generally considered more attractive than reconstructed or cosmetic implants (something about merit?), although that is based on anecdotal

I could be wrong, since I don't speak for Jezebel, but... Jezebel is made up of many different authors with different perspectives. If you actually want this issue covered, you may want to contact a specific author and ask them to write how they feel on it, rather than bury it in this comment thread.

Woops!

Not liking the comedy of specific people is different than the "if you don't like it, get out" argument. I am assuming (I could be wrong) that if you were working - say, at a bar - and Tina Fey's comedy was on television, you would be able to handle it. You may not laugh. But your quality of life would hopefully stay

This is beautiful! Thank you. Saving this for the next time I have to explain to my straight, white, male friends why the joke they're showing me on Youtube isn't funny... and is in fact giving me chills and nausea... *sigh*

That sounds great!

That may be the case! To me, 'face to face' means one-on-one attention, or close to it. And if he meant that, he did have a good point, because many people can't learn in lecture format. If all he wanted was a teacher to talk to the class, then he really does have good reason to expect that. However, that goes a lot

Yea! So need information on this! (I'm pretty sure I'm a dirty person, apparently, eek)

Sadly, though, exactly what you are pointing out is impossible in the current system. While I'm sure she could do better than 'packets', learning 'face to face' is a luxury of a low student to teacher ratio. A single teacher facing 30+ students would be hard pressed to teach anything face to face in a single period.

This seems bizarre to me. I would donate to these victims before I would donate to the good samaritan who was being a good person, and doesn't need a reward... I know that it's nice, but in a situation like this, where there are clearly victims who will have no financial recourse (and who have lost ten years of their

Please, please use these arguments to cover the Coca-Cola ad that includes the gem “If you eat or drink more calories than your body burns off you will gain weight” during an ad about how Coca-Cola fights obesity. It's really disgusting, bleh. Would make a great Jezebel article! Because obesity happens because people

This could be an interesting exercise with a group of university students - maybe even graduate students - who had extensive knowledge of the Holocaust and the outrageous bigotry Jewish people face even today, let alone at the hands of the Nazis. This isn't appropriate for a group of high school students, some of whom
