Long movie. Cuts needed to be made. Whedon kept in the big stars, and made the big cuts of the unknown actor.

I would not frame this as a Marvel vs DC thing. Plenty of DC fans hate Snyder’s movies. 

I always enjoy watching de Lancie chewing up the scenery in Star Trek, so this is welcome news for me. Besides, he’s Picard’s arch nemesis, if such a thing exists in Star Trek, so I’d be surprised if he DIDN’T show up.
