An opinion I agree with, however a large chunk of humanity think we’er wrong.
I think it would be something to do with how focused and aimed the beam is. They can still communicate with old space probes on the edge of the solar system, now. I think they have to know where they are thought. Even with orbital satellites, if they lose track of them they seem to have a lot of trouble finding them…
I might be wrong but I don’t think he said anything about sending out probes, wasn’t it about high power radio transmissions directed at other planets/stars? However maybe the aliens can see where we are by the direction of the lasers blowing the probes
I think the inverse square propagation law mean any means any “TV” signal from earth is undistinguishable from background noise after a few light years.

Microelectronics engineer here totally agree. Sometimes I hear programmers on TV talking about what they can do now and in the next few years, and I’m thinking OK whose designing this hardware, no one I know.
