when i first started knitting, i was so confused about how to knit in the round, it really seemed like some sort of witchcraft lol

thank you, this is exactly what i keep telling myself. i’ve actually been job hunting on the side for a while, but nothing ever came to fruition. this time, i already have two solid leads, so the universe must have needed to give me a good scare to really get me to put myself out there, job wise lol
so the shawl is on size eight circular needles, because you need the cable to hold all those stitches. but it’s totally possible to do a hat on straights! you can look for hat patterns that are worked flat, and you just sew the two sides together when you’re done :)
this is actually really good advice! i’m basically just looking for a paycheck to get me through school so i can get into my chosen field. but once i’m done getting my degree, scoping out other people who are successful makes total sense!
i was let go for ‘performance issues’, which is incredibly vague and unhelpful. i was really close to my immediate managers, so i’m assuming this was some kind of hr decision because i was making too much money. i used to be a lead teller, but was moved around to different branches until i finally asked to be demoted…
thanks, i’m going to apply for unemployment on monday, and just keep my nose to the grindstone and apply to as many things as i can. i’m hoping this will end up as a blessing in disguise, and i’ll get a job that has a more flexible schedule so i can stay in school. i’m getting close to finishing my community college’s…
money spent on yarn that you use is never wasted! (or even yarn that you don’t use *DOESN’T LOOK AT STASH!!!*)
do you mind if i ask what pattern that is? i just finished my first sweater last month (flax, by tincanknits), and i’m looking for another one to try.
ahhhh, thank you! it’s actually a couple different shades of gray, but the lighting in here is super warm so it makes everything come out yellow-tinted.
i wanted something simple for the car ride, and this worked out perfectly! i’m about to start the garter border, so hopefully i’ll have it off the needles by tonight
thank you! i honestly do believe that, it was just... jarring, to be told i was being let go. it was at a bank, so obviously the work was soul-sucking and i hated it, but i tried to do a good job, damn it!!
and our roommate (more like a brother, actually) is leaving to go back home to connecticut. it’s a good move for him, his parents are older and need help around the house, and i’m definitely ready to have a household with just my wife and me, but it sucks to be losing the extra help with rent.
we’re currently finishing up season two of ‘stranger things’, and i’m thinking that a ‘west wing’ rewatch will be in order after that
craft thread!! i was able to go to purl soho in nyc the other week, and it was amazing 😍 i haven’t started any projects with the yarn i bought for myself, though, because i’m finishing up a shawl for the wife that i started on the drive there and back from michigan.
this week was so shitty, you guys :( i got fired from my job of six years (i’m a millennial, so this is actually a pretty decent chunk of my professional life span) and i was completely blindsided by it. i just got back from a belated honeymoon a week ago, and it was AMAZING, but now i’m stuck wishing i hadn’t spent…
i wonder if this is how christians who believe in science feel, but none of this research into how oujia boards and the like work makes me feel silly to believe in them, or even attacked for my beliefs. humans hundreds of years ago figured out something that today can help people work through psychological blocks. i…
oh hey, there’s a kehinde wiley painting at the detroit institute of art that i’ve seen! it’s HUGE, like 10'x10' or something like that? it’s really striking in person.
we’re hella into halloween, so i’ll add that to our philly list!
yessss! i listen to the sawbones podcast pretty regularly, so i would love to see stuff like that!!
duly noted!
