If you have problems with Starfleet officers who are war criminals attempting to start a war with the Klingons, I’ve got some very bad news about the TOS episode “Errand of Mercy” for you. Seriously, it literally ended with a race of walking deus ex machinas calling Kirk a bloodthirsty asshole who epitomized

Actually, the rest of us got the good version too. Maybe you need to adjust your TV set?

Everyone was trying to act on available information on the Klingons, without realizing someone was rewriting the playbook, T’Kuvna. He had a plan he was going to implement no matter what, The Federation was just its puppet for it.

She was trying to avert the war. Sarek specifically said that when the Vulcans began attacking every ship they saw, the Klingons backed off. But Captain Georgiou ignored her First Officer’s recommendations and tried to diplomat her way out of the situation, which pissed the Klingons off enough to open fire.

Good lord. We get it. You don’t like it. Just go away and let us watch it.

I think your criticisms stick to S1 a lot better than S2. I was like “Okay this Star Trek but also this is a bit weird...” about S1 (and all Star Trek S1s kinda sucked), but S2 was generally pretty solid. If we have the same rate of improvement, S3 should be outright good.

I wonder how many years it will take to get to that rate, if it ever does. I’d be surprised to see Strange New Worlds at all in 2021, or Section 31 before 2023. And Discovery could always bow out after season 4 or 5, or Picard might do a big series finale after just 3 seasons, you never know.

Certainly for 2021, it’s

The captain is not a woman, or a human, he is a Kelpien. Unless I forgot something from last season.

Let’s be honest, Discovery has been a blast so far, and it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun to see a third season, especially given there’s some great plotting and characters along for the ride.

And that’s why I clarified that the book featured selective breeding and in utero manipulation (specifically, damaging the lower castes’ intelligence with alcohol), but not genetic engineering, which is a more modern concept.

I miss io9.

So, is Peacock going the way of HBO? Wonder how they’ll portray the “Mandatory Orgies, every other Thursday” bit?

Any io9 review of the show yet? I must have missed it if so.

It’s the entire point of the freaking book that everyone is genetically engineered and then conditioned in utero

Still one of my faves:

And here, after all that, in the 21st century, we’re still too stupid to wear masks, because one guy refuses to wear one.

I have one of those plague masks that I got for a halloween costume years ago. I was briefly considering adding a filter to make it a functional mask in the midst of the PPE shortages. The the hospital admins said “no plague masks please”, only half-jokingly.

This is interesting (bolding done by me):

The invention of the N95 mask itself is very interesting.
