I think the biggest enemy of the film is probably Zack Snyder.

Yeah, Mattel plans on making 45 more movies based on their products if Barbie is a big hit — that’s a real figure, not hyperbole — so the whole idea of movies based on random shit from your childhood (or your parents’ childhood) is not going away anytime soon. I mean, there’s a fucking UNO movie in development. I’m…
Considering Hollywood has been pumping big budget spectacle based on known IP since its very beginning, I see no evidence they are going to stop.
It’s kind of crazy to me that someone can write about box office results every week and seemingly have no idea how movie financials work. The amount a movie grosses in theaters on its own doesn’t matter at all - these movies are disappointments because studios are spending absurd amounts of money to make them.
Every time I see the name “Ruby Gillman,” I momentarily see “Rudy Giuliani.”
It depends on what their other revenue streams are. Disney has historically used movies to sell toys and park tickets. The goal is probably to sell Lego sets as much as it is to actually make people see the movie.
The plan used to be that the successes more than made up for the losses.
Sounds about right. Even just at the beginning of Early Access (Act 1) it could take you 20-30 hours to finish. You could do it much faster than that if you wanted, but there was a ton to do and explore, and multiple ways to accomplish quests or even have simple conversations.
Likewise, there’s a ton of reactivity in…
Recent box office receipts: “There seems to be franchise fatigue.”
Part Two is supposed to cover the second half of the novel. So there could be a time jump, just not at the beginning.
I bet it would blow your damn mind if I told you there were 49 movies of A Christmas Carol.
Any idea what the book was called??? I’m in need of a light, breezy, summer beach book.
You might be shocked to find out that both bear really close similarities to this book from 1965.
Dennis has also changed a few things from the book already, notably the appearance of the Harknonnens (something they both change, iirc), the Gom Jabbar test scene, and a LOT of the plot against Jessica and a good wack of Huey’s betrayal.
First of all, the general sentiment is that the Lynch movie is seriously flawed, because a) he wasn’t able to release his preferred cut of the movie, and b) it’s kinda mixed overall, skimping over the deeper themes in Herbert’s novel. I like it fine, but lots of Herbert fans don’t.
They are full of shit or deranged. No sane person thinks that.
Wait, did I miss the space slug navigator thing in this version?
It’s a weird combination of greed and the assumption that nobody wants the old stuff so it’s not worth it to them to push it over the newer content. So all these streaming services are pushing material from the last 5 years and you have to dig deep to find anything beyond that.
Ironically, there’s a story that the original negative of Citizen Kane actually was (mistakenly) sent to a reclamation plant and scrapped for silver: https://www.filmbuffonline.com/FBOLNewsreel/wordpress/2021/02/28/citizen-kane-camera-negative/
I really miss the TCM Underground block they used to air late Friday nights/early Saturday mornings. I saw a lot of great movies I probably wouldn't have otherwise. Of course, I saw some I never want to see again, but the good far outweighed the bad.
