The Rock , in an Egyptian setting playing a good guy who eventually becomes a monstrous villain.

I recognize the distinction is not immediately clear, but when I watch the trailer I literally see flashes of Thor, Black Panther, Hancock, etc. Compared to say, Morbius, which is generic as fuck, and doesn’t look like anything in particular. This trailer looks like a quilt composed of way too many different patterns

I’m not familiar with this character at all, but... Aldis Hodge is always good so that helps.   If for some godforsaken reason we’re not ever getting the Shane Black written and directed Doc Savage starring Dwayne Johnson, I guess this is okay.

Which sucks because the man was a great heel and has the exact type of magnetism that can make Black Adam beloved even as he’s doing the worst shit. Fingers crossed.

If you told me one of Howard the Ducks archenemies from the 70s was named Doctor Bong, I would have not assumed it was because he had a bell shaped head that goes “BONG” when he hits it

Ahh yes, El Kabong’s name after he got his doctorate!

Featuring Piers Brosnan as George Lucas!

I just realized:  I would watch the hell out of a reboot of The Critic.  Or at least give it a try.

I was going to blame sunspots, but ok, fine. Star Wars it is then.

I was really excited because it was inverting the idea: It was all that stuff coming into our world, and it was about the blending of the two

All of this is true. It’s no surprise the tie-in arcade game was a hell of a lot more memorable.

It wasn’t the “weird art kid,” it was the “normal rich kid with nothing to say”

Whatever valid point might be made about monopoly and “monoculture” feels kind of lost in the blisteringly contrarian take that getting the MCU instead of a third Tron movie was some kind of loss.

It’s also quite a revisionist take to describe it as a “major blockbuster”. That $170-5M dollar budget was closer to $200, there was an additional P&A spend of $150M, and it grossed $400M worldwide. (And of course, it was supposed to spawn merch, rides, franchises, etc.). And it has no lasting buzz or impact, as a

I liked it as a kid in the ‘80s because it had the cool light bikes and a story based around video games...when I was like 8 or whatever. As an adult yeah I appreciate the fx and cinematography but the story itself is kind of a mess.

This. It wasn’t the “weird art kid,” it was the “normal rich kid with nothing to say” who thought that buying a Daft Punk soundtrack would make him cool by osmosis. Also note how Kosinski mentions the storyboards before the script - he’s an architecture student turned filmmaker, and there's no shame in that, but being

It’s funny to describe a major blockbuster like Tron: Legacy as the weird art kid of the Disney family, but compared to golden children Marvel and Star Wars, it’s not far off.

I guess it’s the level of vitriol towards her (which might be because of your reasons) on top of the rescue mission people have for Depp that feels so unsettling, it’s just really fucked up.

I feel like it’s because Heard is in the spotlight. Weinstein is, as previously noted, a producer, meaning by and large the public didn’t even know who he was; Cosby, while being a known actor (and probably a legend if we’re being honest) was both old and largely retired by the time all the stuff about him came out
