They kind of mention it in Episode 1 or 2, so at the very least you realize he has seen something in the future he wants to avoid, and its not hard to figure out what knowing only a little about the character, but yeah, you kind of do have to know about Pike from TOS to get the most out of it.

We didnt see the Pike Episodes of Discovery and went right into the SNW with no problems.  They very much make it accessible.

Yeah my daughter is a big fan, and the ending was solid. The minor rival characters often stayed that, but they were shown as not being BAD even if they werent friends at the end.

Eh they are all basically just IP mining, so it’s not like they are doing any of this for the Love of the Story or for any artistic reason.

But it is still a story that maks a heroine out of a character that wants to skin and wear puppies.

She wants to wear puppies . . . And she smokes!
