Sheesh! You have to put it in a special mode for it to cope with a fucking car wash? And if not, warranty is voided! What a fucking shitshow of a design and company.

Agreed and understood. The great thing about living in the south in a rural town that decided to put really nice chargers in that are free is that I always get to charge, lol. It’s my local tax dollars anyways so I might as well get some of it back.
do you actually dispute his thoughts, despite the fact that it’s just anecdotal evidence? Because this is a problem everywhere. Hard to know if you’re serious.
Personally, with all the random driving trips I take, I simply can’t get an EV anytime soon because of how long it takes to recharge, and constant worries about charger wait times or availability on routes I choose to take.
I just got a Tesla, granted we are in the Midwest, but at any given time, the most I’ve ever seen at a Supercharger is 2 other cars plus myself. The infrastructure outruns demand here but I can see it being a major issue in other areas.
My wife has a Chevy Bolt… these have not yet been opened up to the Tesla network. We charge mostly level 2 at home or at work, however we have taken three road trips in the past year: to Albuquerque, to Vegas and to rural Nevada. Each trip, at largely Elctrify America and Chargepoint stations (which generally have far…
The wait times are killing me. I can charge to 80% in 15min but stand around in line for an hour on average. What’s worse is that 99% of charges don’t have any sort of queue, so you’re left with going car to car asking who’s in line and who’s next.
Costco is 10% or so cheaper than every other station around and Costco members get another 4% discount on top of that. That’s why Costco is crowded in spite of a glut of infrastructure. Tesla is more expensive than its main competitor. Their crowds aren’t based on them being a bargain and are more likely based on the…
Because at Costco someone may fill up in less than 5 minutes. What kind of mileage do you get with a 5 minute charge at an EV station? False equivalence, sir.
Anything but being able to charge at home looks to be painful with wait times.
People who have enjoyed the convenience of NEVER having to wait in line for gas are not going to trade that for the dice roll of waiting for an EV charger.
of all the charging stations in north county, that is byfar the smallest and worst, for how busy the outlets get
What? People are regularly waiting over 20 minutes to get a charging spot. Never in my life have I heard of anyone, anywhere waiting that long for gas, except during the oil crisis 50 years ago, and before and (especially) after natural disasters. And in my entire 28 years of driving, I’ve encountered maybe 5 or 6 gas…
Yeah but when each person spends 30 minutes to hours charging (assuming they’re even there right when it’s finished!) there’s a big difference between a line at an EV station vs. a gas station.
In Tallahassee, we have only 1 major Tesla charging station on the north end of town where 90% of the “money” in the city lives. It’s got about 15 Tesla charging spots. Between 12 and 7pm, they are always full with anywhere from 10-20 people in line waiting. They routinely have police stationed in that parking lot due…
Shit, I need to show this to my local movie theater. It was a mess last week trying to get tickets and popcorn with four different cues for four different tellers.
The problem with EV charging is you have almost no idea how long it will take. Whereas with a gas station, your max filling time is probably 10 min. per car. But really closer to 5 min per car. If we were even at 20% new cars as EV sales, public charging would be an absolute nightmare.
I totally agree. Once charging stations are common and people realize there is one in almost every town, and so many miles on all interstate highways, EV sales will take off. Most people I talk to are afraid they will not find a station when they need one.
IMO it does not make sense to buy an EV if you are planning to rely on a charging network for anything outside of the occasional longer trip. If it is your commuter car, you’d better have a 40Amp+ charger in your garage or dedicated parking space. Anything else and you’re better off with a PHEV, HEV, or just regular…
Nothing says rugged SUV quite like a front spoiler with 4" of clearance and a desktop monitor on the dash. I’m not a Toyota hater. I’ve had three Runners. I’m just disappointed as they have had twelve years to release this and it’s just not as cool as it could be. I’m sure they’ll sell very well.
