I do not class potato as a vegetable. Culinarily I was taught to count it as a starch(/carb), and generally class it as fitting a meal more like grains. Corn, rice, wheat products (pasta, bread, ect) have a place in foods but a plate of corned beef hash does not count as containing a vegetable, and rice crispy treats…
in food terminology grains are a seperate class. While technically grains would be called vegetable mass, in food terms their class differs. It’s to do with their being predominantly starch foods with some protien aspect. Cerreal crops are used mostly as caloric filler in a diet. It’s bulk food that allowed feeding…
