Yep, I had to laugh when I saw that this supposedly devout Jehovah’s Witness is awfully selective about which tenets he chooses to follow, and which one he just made up. While it’s true they don’t take blood transfusions, they don’t have general objections to regular medical care. Also, JWs don’t stand for national

I wonder how that would change if we shaped the needles like guns? Just make an AR-15 that shoots darts of vaccine and these bros will be all over it.

Yep. My campus canceled spring break to hopefully prevent students from traveling. But with hybrid learning where students can join a live class virtually, they are skirting the rules and Zooming into class from their vacation hotel rooms. This means there’s an unmeasurable flow of students leaving and coming back to

This pandemic has made me realize I’m more of a people person too. I always thought living in a small town was what I really wanted, and now I know it’s not. I need to be around more people. Not necessarily to interact with all of them, but to just be in their presence and have the option. I miss my friends terribly

It was a THING this week! My bestie and I both could not be bothered to care about anything. I think it's in part bc we hit one year in quarantine on the 12th and nothing much has changed for us.

This was a weak week cookery-wise because of work and general ennui, but I did manage to teach one of the Hordelings to make lamb chops with a butter/wine/garlic reduction and convinced the other Hordeling to eat farrow with mushrooms.

I’ve been struggling with my mental health lately too. This pandemic has proved that I’m more of a people person than I thought I was and the frustration of not being able to see people has been mounting. I’m technically eligible for the vaccine in a couple weeks but it still feels like the end is so far away.

Was there something in the air? My mental health took a nosedive this week to the point of not eating and going on a bender for days. Work has pressuring us to test a new system, but refused to train us and gave us poorly written manuals instead. When I contact our contractors in charge about an issue, I get an email

Glad you found ways to lift your mood. The drive, labyrinth, museum, and helping at the theater all sound lovely.

Of course Butter is making biscuits.  Love, love, love.

For some reason (or no reason - my brain does that sometimes), my mental health took a dive this week. To the point where it physically hurt.

I have been craving salad, even browsing lists of fancy-schmancy salads on epicurious.com, probably because it’s finally spring, even if it still feels cold. I’m planning to plant some pea seeds tomorrow, my husband manged to turn the soil enough, I gave it one scrape with a trowel and not workable yet.

Have I mentioned that I am going to show up at your house some day for dinner? I will bring wine, I promise ;-).

What has everyone made this week? Last Saturday was my husband’s birthday, so I made his favorite dinner, arancini, although they’re less like small oranges as the name suggests, and more like regular arance. Rice croquettes basically, with loads of cheese in the rice, sauce, and a big blob of melty mozzarella in the

Okay, I’m sure you actually don’t want me to nerd out on eighteenth-century political cartoons, but my sense of this one is that it’s a shot against conspicuous consumption, vanity, and French imports (which are seen as being very, very morally suspect). The “essay on puffing” underlines the main issue—puffery was the

I am SO glad I don’t work with toxic people anymore. Our emergency department team is outstanding, and most of the staff have worked together long enough that they know how to communicate effortlessly and maintain a sense of discipline and order, especially during a critical case. Everyone knows their role, and

Congrats!! I don’t generally consider myself a vindictive grudge holder, but I do periodically check in on (aka online stalk) a similarly despicable ex-coworker just to be sure her life still sort of sucks (shitty dead end job after making my team's life miserable and making my favorite coworker cry). Good riddance to

From the person who ate 4 generous servings of pho for dinner (then several profiteroles) : do not ask forgiveness.

I made adult-Mac-n-Cheese for lunch today. I made the macaroni, then melted some of the good stuff into some cream before mixing it back with the pasta and some black pepper.

Ding dong the witch is dead! ...well nearly. A coworker who’s so toxic she’s gone through 3 teams in 1 year and who regularly creates situations where lethal harm could occur (and has occurred in the past) has given her notice! And the powers-that-be aren’t inclined to let her rescind it this time (like they did last
