Or, like my family, multiple people with (actual, blood-test-diagnosed) dairy allergies that make almond milk a godsend. We have tried many types of dairy-free milk and almond is by far our favorite.

As I said above, be careful, most margarine actually has dairy. Thus vegan butters. You can use shortening, but it will often require you to modify the recipe.
No. Most margarine has dairy in it (why that’s true is beyond me.) Both my husband and son have dairy allergies (different from lactose intolerance) and vegan butters are a godsend. Now, if you mean shortening, yes, that is often vegan, but behaves very differently from butter.
I'm jealous. The hospital I ended up at was one of the more "natural birthing friendly" ones but they still were astonished that I actually made it through drug-free... Looking back, I'm not surprised, because a lot of their practices made it harder to do than necessary.
I'm glad you had a really good experience, and I'm sorry that you started hemorrhaging. However, that is not everyone's experience with hospital births. I was laboring drug-free and was forced to lay on my back for monitoring, even though the hospital specifically promised that they could use portable monitors. The…
Thank you. I really wish we had birth centers where I live... the major hospital groups keep blocking them out. I feel like they're a good compromise between home birth and hospital birth.
I think maybe part of the problem is that there is a perception of less demand that may not actually exist. When strong female leads are so rare, how can producers know that women will show up? Maybe it's more of an issue of getting some of these movies out there in the first place to show that people will still pay…
I guess one thing I should clarify is that B and K were in the process of separating and if this had happened in a few months K would not have been a "widow" and things would have gone very differently. It's really hard to communicate the complexity of the situation in a comment, but Jezebel/GT is the only place I…
Does anyone have any advice for dealing with a super-conservative, super-transphobic family?
Google "spiked drink" and see what the top responses are. This is a site that is supposed to address rape culture and making jokes about spiking drinks is out of line.
Yes, this is totally unacceptable. No matter what the intent was, it is clearly bothering people and added nothing to the advertisement. Jez would normally be the ones attacking ads like that.
Despite the feeling I might be feeding a troll, I'll bite, because this sort of thing is all over the comments. No, the net complaint is that this situation was handled terribly from the beginning. I was trying to explain that the officials may have been following the law, but they were still insensitive and rude and…
Avery stated in her twitter feed that her passport reads female... so no, not really.
It's not like she was having a bad hair day or her kid was sick. She is female, her passport is even female (not that it needed to be). Nobody is really saying she was imprisoned merely because she is a trans woman, we are saying that she was treated cruelly. Referring to her gender identity as a "personal issue" is…
"Personal circumstances"? Seriously?
The last two are stupid (and the very last one rather sexist) but the first one I actually liked. That may mean I'm a bad person.
I had the same thought. I think the point is that the law itself is a problem, and that the officials kept insisting on using the incorrect pronoun. Just because the person in question had "male parts", doesn't mean they needed to keep referring to her as a "he". Also the part about being "assessed by a nurse" seems…
This. I would also add, it is usually possible to follow a lot of the advice in the scenarios you've given. Don't leave gifts in plain sight in your car? No big deal. Don't leave a fire in the fireplace unattended? Ok. But, if you follow all the advice to avoid rape, you would have to cease to exist as a woman. Don't…
Seriously, your eloquent comment above was awesome, but this made me laugh out loud.
I don't know how to do gifs... But please take care of yourself. Is it possible for your husband to have a heart to heart with his mom about treating you better? Or at least setting boundaries/ground rules? This situation sounds toxic and your health and sanity are too important. Sending internet hugs your way.
