The automatic is an entity of profit. It was made so more people could drive cars, back when driving required more skillful stick shifting. With the car shifting for you, more people could drive, and thus, buy cars, which meant more money for the automakers. Now though? Well... Let just say that automatic on my '04…

@2xwishbonz: They have a wider track for better stability and handling, and the flares make sure the wheels aren't sitting way outside the car, like an open-wheel racer.
