I think that conservatives want an ignorant, uneducated electorate. A well educated, involved population would not support policies that go against their own interests.

It’s terrifying that we’re putting the future of humanity at risk because 1) we can’t think beyond the next 365 days 2) it’s so uncool to listen to scientists 3) there’s short term profit in ignoring the truth that we’re doomed.

Climate change is gradual. It’s effects are not immediately noticeable so people don’t see it as urgent or terrifying. Humans, historically speaking, aren’t particularity known for thinking about long-term problems.
