It is absolutely too much to ask. But at 4, the kid is old enough that swearing/drinking/violent movies when he's around are dickish behaviour. I personally wouldn't be comfortable acting like that in front of a kid to prove a point to his mother, even if those were my normal behaviours.

It's not the kid's fault, there's no reason to be an asshole to him.
