I've actually been really happy that, so far, I've only found one slave owner in my ancestry. In the census, a widow was recorded to have one adult male slave and one child. Every time I check a census and there's no entry under the slave column, I'm a bit happier.

My belief is that if your ancestors have been here since the 19th century, the odds of you being of one racial descent is about zero.
