If you told me in 2014 that Barack Obama chatted on the phone every night with someone like Keith Olbermann, it would have cratered my opinion of Barack Obama.

The problem with any sort of discussion about any type of community or sub-culture like nerd-dom, black or otherwise, is that it almost always revolves around anecdote, which isn’t always a great barometer for the “average” experiences and attitudes of an entire community or sub-culture.

In some ways, his at least somewhat successful rebranding of himself is more depressing than even these stories.
