Four years is bad enough; by the time they get a plan settled and underway, the next person's coming in and undoing it all 0_o

Ahh, and this is why the moving of district lines becomes such a hot button!

It's not designed to be effective - it's designed to be *purposefully ineffective* unless political opponents can compromise with each other.

That explains a lot, that they both carry the same label. Is there any sort of tell or contextual giveaway that one can use to ID whether the person is a rep or a senator? i.e. in the way that you see (R) for republican and (D) for democrat.

Woah. Two doesn't seem like very much, and 435 seems like a pretty arbitrary number. I'm going to have to look up the history of why/how they arrived at 435, clearly.

So, with cycling, if there are ten senatorial seats in a given state, one and two are not vacated in election 1, and then in election 2, seats three and four are not vacated, election 3 it'd be seats 5 and 6, and so forth?

Interesting! I imagine there's some really good writing on the psychology of that.

It's just strange to me, the idea of staggering federal-level positions like that.

I wonder, how much can a Representative really accomplish in two years?

I can see that reasoning. The overlap might have been presumed to even out imbalances in the House too.

I also have a serious question. As a non-American, could someone explain to me why you have mid-term elections?

Haha, fair point.

Because they were high-waisted?

Except for the ones that were high-waisted. If it touches my navel, it's too damn high. That's why I started wearing oversize jeans in the first place, to avoid pants that were creeping up to my ribs. Stupid 80s fashion.

...I like the way you think. Given that my husband loves bad horror movies, I think maybe I might need to do something similar.

their breakfast sandwiches taste like apathy given form

Nice. I have a few JNCOs, some Kikwears, some Snug, FDCO, Lithium, and House of Spy :)

Fair. This could be Jessica McClintock for all the interest it generates.

Likewise. The point of wearing heels, to my mind, is grace and elongation. Chunky heels don't really do that.

It's not as bad as the couch dress, but it's not great, that's for sure.
