The way I would do it would be to have all the scenes planned ahead of time so they can be reviewed by all performers present in any given scene. You’d also have to still allow them to change their mind even at the last minute. A good director and crew will be able to make adjustments as necessary.

Those situations are rare. Most of the time they’re in a small room with expensive equipment. Waiting, watching, listening for amounts of time that would drive most people insane. Chatting up the villain at a dinner party is mostly Hollywood fiction.
