I’ve been reading some of the new sites that Splinter and Deadspin alumni have gone to like the Outline, New Republic, Vice, and Slate. Chapo Trap House also has connections to both sites (and is really great) if you like podcasts.

There is a pretty good community going on Discord. Some of the frequent contributors at Deadspin have been putting a lot of effort into maintaining and moderating. It had been scratching my itch

I have some of the same muscle memory taking me to dead sites a few times a day out of habit before I curse and get mad all over again. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I’ve been reading Wonkette more since Splinter and Deadspin went down, and I’ve spent more time following individual writers from both on Twitter…

about the best I’ve found is Vice, but there is not near as much content.  The creators are awful people but they have some good writers/reporters on the staff.

Agreed, they were like the sports geek, and political nerd of the nerd triad. The murder of post gawker sites will make a great documentary one day.

I agree. I think my biggest disappointment in TLJ was that it didn’t commit to subverting expectations more. I really wanted Rey to join Ben and the “dark side” (which would have challenged our view of what the dark side even is). Instead, the movie felt like it was trying to have it both ways end ended up feeling…
