Davenport vs. sofa
EXCELLENT take, Nick. Even in Canada, where the visibility of Indigenous peoples, nations and issues is significantly higher than in the US, I’m hard-pressed to think of a single First Nations, Inuit or Métis sports journalist. (Plenty of fantastic ones in the news and justice beats, granted, but none come to mind in…
There was this movie about a big boat that sank. Can’t remember the name...
They are just looking for someone more cultured.
And yes, I know! Wayne Simmonds got a nice, screen-heavy hat trick last night too:
Well Missouri is in America so uh yes.
I’m just floored and saddened that someone at a Redskins game would use a racial slur.
It’s a Sisyphean hell for some stenographer who laughed at a witch.
Just imagine the poor bastard who had to listen and type that out.
I would like to request an editorial policy against including transcripts of Trump. It hurts to read. It just hurts so bad.
Specifically, football leagues.
To be fair, Trump is definitely an expert on businesses going to hell.
It would be worth it for the fatal Cherry aneurysm alone!
Touché.
Don would scream himself into a fatal aneurysm, of course, but still.
Holy fuck I wouldn’t want to see wtf Don has to say about this one, I think his head would explode. To your point, I know maybe 1 person for every 10 who might be calm about somebody kneeling for the Canadian anthem, the country would lose their collective shit.
Like with Rob Ford, sports is where that xenophobic underbelly of Canada shows itself (it exists in every country).
People would shit themselves. I have zero confidence that my fellow Canadians would deal with it in a calm and rational way. Don Cherry would look liberal in comparison (not really, Don would scream himself into a fatal aneurysm, of course, but still).
Can you imagine the reaction if Jordin Tootoo or Jordan Nolan (I’m not bringing up Carey Price for a couple reasons) announced they were going to turn their back on the anthem due to Canadas treatment of First Nations peoples? Missing and murdered First Nations women, chronic abuse at the hands of police, racism…
There are no Canadian NFL teams. I know Saskatchewan did that arm-link thing, but I’d be curious to see what the reaction here would be if a bunch of players knelt during the Canadian anthem during a hockey game.
