That Mos Espa Vespa street chase felt VERY Spy Kids to me, and not in a good way. The whole chase sequence felt pretty sloppily shot and edited. And then Danny Trejo showed up with a Rancor and I realized “Oh yeah, Robert Rodriguez definitely made this.”

I have a feeling I might appreciate these episodes more on a rewatch once everything airs, because after the fairly nice episode last week, I’m dangerously close to “I don’t give a shit” territory.

Given the other casting choices, I’m guessing this movie is being written in such a manner that leans into the absurdity and surrealism of the Mario games. So I get it in a way. He’s done that already in The Lego Movie, and he’s become a household name through his various roles in TV and movies.

I was really against the whole “Bringing Palpatine back” aspect when RoS came out, but looking back, it wasn’t that bad an idea. There is a reason why it’s the first thing Dark Horse did when they got the license in the 90s. It fits the character of Palpatine to have plans to cheat death.
