I hear ya, but I would hope if I was rich I would have the common sense to at least get something reasonable for my kid. Even if I went the new car route (which I probably wouldn’t), I would be something more sensible, like a Ford Focus. And I probably wouldn’t “give” it to the kid. I’d have it as an extra family car…

Agreed, but new car lemons are much less common than old cars that are on their last legs. Believe me, I wasn’t trying to make a case against buying used over new. 6 of my 8 car & truck purchases have been used. I bought my first car for $700! :)

In a perfect world. Having said that, I think autonomous cars will be a good thing as it will get bad drivers out from behind the wheel. I’d love to see more aggressive licensing and education requirements for driving in the U.S. but it ain’t gonna happen.
