straw man
straw man
Your original analogy, along with you, is completely missing the point. The debate moderator asked Beto about confiscating ASSAULT RIFLES. The question was not “what would you do to curb gun violence”, or “what do you think the biggest contributor to gun violence is.” It was specifically about ASSAULT RIFLES.…
Do you know what a strawman is? It’s making an argument by refuting an argument that wasn’t actually made. So again, what part of Beto was specifically being asked about assault rifles do you not understand?
A larger case? There is no argument here from Rafi that focusing on rifles is pointless (which is an absolutely absurd statement). The article is two paragraphs long. The first explains what Beto said, and the second says, using the strawman of “but what about hand guns”, that his answer wasn’t good enough.
Its a strawman because the question he was asked was specifically about assault rifles.
O’Rourke’s answer, impassioned as it was, nevertheless failed to address the fact that the vast, vast majority of firearm deaths in America are from handguns, not assault rifles.
I think there are two possibilities here. The first and most likely is that your friends are full of shit, and while they wouldn’t be happy about the government giving them money for their AR-15, they would do it.
Andrew Yang’s campaign manager just called to tell me that at tomorrow night’s debate, Yang will be doing “something no presidential candidate has ever done before in history.” He declined to go further than that.
I can see the tweet next week now...I’ve done more for the homeless people in Las Angeles than the Democrats (socialists) running California have in history.

A better song, especially if you’re like me and can’t sing, is Strokin’ by Clarence Carter. All you have to do is talk in the right cadence, and its hilariously dirty.
I’ve never owned a gun, but if I did I would be a hell of a lot more responsible with one than a lot of gun owners I see yapping about a piss poor interpretation of the second amendment.
“I mean, look, we’ve taught our kids t
hat they come about by chance through primordial slimeits ok to be racists, to hate people that love differently than we do, to fear people with scarves on their head, and to keep poor people down because I got mine, and we’re surprised that they treat their fellow Americans…
or he can continue to sit out during the regular season while hoping the Chargers can find a team to trade him to.
This is good, but lets hope some of these bubble candidates start dropping out. The threshold for the October debates is the same, so theoretically we could have more than 10 again if people like Gillibrand, Steyer or Gabbard get over the hump in the next six weeks.
That too.
I’m extremely impressed with the ability of the folks at MSNBC to not burst into laughter at him.
But it does, especially in this context. Considering all the shit Trump has done that the GOP has either supported or brushed off its not amazing at that no republican has called him out for his antisemitism. Its just par for the course.
and it’s amazing that not a single Republican today has called him out for it,” Hasan concluded.
