A server works in many of the same ways that a desktop does. Can you elaborate on why you couldn't just make your server appear as a desktop instead? These days the line has been blurring anyways!
I bought a nicer camera and compromised on the lens, thinking I was going to just stick with the kit lens and enjoy the nicer camera for a while until I get the cash flow again. Outlook definately isn't a gmail killer. It's clean and well featured, but not faster, and I prefer the simple archive and search approach to Outlook's cluttered way of handling this.
The money is used for a lot of things good other than what you have pointed out.
