Michael Cimino’s “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot” is an overlooked gem. A super fun “caper” flick with gorgeous cinematography. It’s got an amazing cast too.

The show has have made several references to Glen Quagmire’s pervy persona now being watered to the point where he’s essentially superfluous. That’s pretty meta.

It’s a bit of a red flag when the first two talking head “experts” in a New York Times documentary are...New York Times reporters. Maybe everybody who ever vaped will die from some horrible disease. But it’s far from certain. Some of the dire, alarming sources they cite are a lot more vague when you read them in full.

Smoking is bad. Vaping is slightly less so. You’re better off with a Juul than a Marlboro. I’m using vapes to quit smoking. It’s not a perfect solution but it’s definitely working. I’ll probably live longer sucking on a Juul even if I don’t quit. It’s harm-reduction and it’s reality. The tsk-tsking moral bullshit from

Kim Gordon’s not really suited to the sunny festival stage.

There’s something going on with the later “Jackass” films being shot overseas. I don’t think it was about production costs. I think it was some sort of legal maneuver so they could continue doing outre stunts that would almost certainly be legally dicey in the U.S. of A.

There are no trains to New Jersey from Grand Central *Terminal*. Fake news!

“Conduct in general” is not speech. That’s the problem I have with the concept of hate crime laws. If you beat somebody up, you should be penalized. But I don’t know how it is somehow worse because of what you were thinking when you did so. It’s mostly political, legislative theater.

Jesus. I. DON’T. CARE. about Guy Fieri’s political views. I wish more media-types would be cagey and vague about such things. I wish more writers doing profiles of celebrities would also do so. You don’t have a problem with Fieri’s politics, you have a problem with his not confirming he is 100% aligned with your

This might be the longest piece I’ve ever seen on the AV Club.

Remember the time Wonder Woman was laying on the grass having sex with the Invisible Man and Superman spotted her?

The pandemic just pushed up the expiration date of big screen exclusivity. You won’t hear directors whine for too much longer since the idea of “day and date” is being written into every contract from now on.

See also Groucho Marx’s quip to a woman with 12 kids: “Well, I like my cigar too but I take it out of my mouth every once in a while.”

I’ve heard from people who dealt with him “professionally” and he sounded rather desperate. He was a “$1000 dollar guy.” i.e. he’d do pretty much any appearance for that price (plus travel expenses.) At one point he had some sort of “act” that he tried to book in strip clubs and comedy clubs but it did not prove to be

Outline. Probably more pop-punk than hardcore but they played a lot of basements in NJ/NY. He had another band Steel Train. They were really great but about as far from punk or pop music as you could imagine. They were sort of hippies. They had a conga player and covered Crosby, Stills and Nash(!)

Antonoff gets the same gigs as numerous Swedes are lauded for but he doesn’t make the same record over and over again. He makes good records but maybe not generic pop hits. Pretty cool for a guy who used to be in a hardcore band.

It’s not much of a scam making consumer goods available to poor people who could not otherwise obtain them. Yes, it’s technically overpriced. But if bread is $3 at the grocery store and you only have $1 to your name, the dollar store is your savior. Been there, done that.

Geena Davis is awesome and I’m glad if her role in “Thelma and Louise” gave “queer women...a character to fall for” but it’s a bit smug if you’re implying her character was a lesbian. Did I miss something? It’s not really a great take on female friendships.

In all seriousness, doesn’t anything sensible have what could be deemed a “liberal bias”? American conservatives lean heavily into religion and nationalism, two vectors that are pretty arbitrary and nonsensical. In the U.S., conservative economics take a backseat to everything else.

Urging people to exercise caution before partaking in “I’m Alan Partridge” is...something.
