So, they took a process that's relatively simple: encoding a small amount of information, like a URL, into a graphical format that can be interpreted by smart phones with cameras; and made it into a really complicated image recognition problem that probably takes many times the processing power to accomplish. How is

Yeah, I get that, and all things considered I am looking forward to the Wii U. When you make a new version of a piece of hardware, however, you really expect it to do everything its predecessor did and more; so advertising it seems a bit awkward. It would be like if Apple came out and said with the new iPhone 5 you

So, really, Amazon is there only new partner here. It's nice, I would like to be able to watch my Amazon content on the Wii, but its nothing major.

The current Wii already does Netflix and Hulu (not sure about Youtube). It's nice to see Amazon added to the list; but by no means is that going to get me to buy a new Wii.

only when they compete with Apple; since apple is not in the broadband business its not a problem for Giz

Jaguar — For men who'd like hand-jobs from beautiful women they hardly know.

I think what's amusing here is the exact point at which things became unprofessional or sexist in some people's eyes. It's apparently totally appropriate to hire a model for her looks, so she can stand next to your technology and subtly make people think about sex when they are looking at it; however at the point at

Wait a minute Jesus, you ARE the usual suspect...

Ah, perhaps I assumed incorrectly then. $300 for a ~200GB hard drive IS pretty steep if that's the case

Yeah, buts it's really $300 for a 160GB (or probably a 200GB) thumb drive, with a free movie on it. I don't think they'll get many takers, except for professional video editors who might need a thumb drive that big for delivering content to their clients anyway, and might as well get a cool video that shows off the

Pretty much all science experiments throw away a good portion of the data. It's called data reduction, and it's basically just the result of scientists erring waaaaay over on the side of caution which how much data they actually measure versus how much data they really need to calculate results of some kind.

I want this guy to write a theme and a bunch of widgets and stuff for Linux. I mean, it would be cool on any OS, but Linux is obviously the most customizable.

This is an intelligence nightmare! Now all of America's enemies will be able to load up their smart phones with this application, and accurately identify the very aircraft that are bombing them into oblivion!

This is like those cases in Alabama where the legislature tried to pass a law re-defining Pi as 3

Yeah, I agree, this is not really a problem. If stars were far enough away to appear static for sea travel, then distant galaxies are far enough away to appear static for space travel. Add in pulsars and other stellar landmarks to use as a galactic GPS, and this problem is pretty much solved. NEXT!

Totally, for as well all know: Macs cannot get viruses

No, he's totally right, broken bottle == ingesting glass shards. Go ahead, be a bad ass while a piece of glass is tearing your GI tract open from the inside.

PS in case anyone feels vindictive and actually DOES decide to throw a spoiler my way, I will stop following this thread in 3...2...1...

Well, I wasn't playing about just starting game of thrones yesterday; but I was being a joking about the spoiler alert comment.
