She established the beachhead. Then we got Trump.
Hey, she became abstinent pregnant, ok? It’s a thing...
I have known too many women in these situations and the only respite most of them get is when their abusive ex moves on to abusing someone else. The abuse is still happening, it’s just happening to another woman. Then after that woman there will be another woman. And so on. And it won’t stop unless/until they kill a…
If I recall correctly, Track was stationed out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska and never saw combat. He did that for two years and was discharged and did recruiting for the National Guard for 2 years. I’m not saying it was easy, but it sure beats being shot at. Also, if the rumors are true, he has forced into service or he…
Totally different point, but fuck Sarah Palin for trying to use PTSD to excuse this behavior. My best friend is a veteran with PTSD, and he has somehow managed to navigate his adult life without harming his romantic partners or anyone else. Most men who have PTSD don’t. There are a ton of women with PTSD too, many of…
“It’s Obama’s fault my son is a fucking loser and my daughter can’t stop getting knocked up.”
“It starts from the top, the question though that comes from our own president, where they have to look at him and wonder, ‘Do you know what we go through?’”
They ask that the family’s privacy is respected
Okay, I am really late to this discussion, but for anyone still looking:
We happen to have a fairly large collection of 19th century wine, champagne, cordial and absinthe glasses gathered in Europe over many years. (They used to be relatively cheap in the 80s and early 90s, when they were completely out of fashion and…
They also have that same thought process as the liberal men who harassed and abused women. It’s thinking you’re on the right side just by existing, so you can do whatever you want.
As long as people don’t start saying the female sexual harassment victims are lying, it’s probably a good thing to get rid of some workplace toxicity. The toxic women will out toxic men, etc. It won’t fix all the problems but should make things slightly better for everyone.
The following does not contradict what has written, but is one small detail.
The worst toxic harassment I ever received, that I still attend therapy for, was in the a public policy office of Planned Parenthood. I am grateful to have moved on, but I am still haunted by the abuse-mentally and physically.
THIS. I am of an education, profession and (somewhat) social standing where people are more likely to run for office than the general population. I still don’t know that many people who run, but almost to a person, anyone who has expressed a desire to be the candidate (rather than the person in the party, or behind…
The likely reasons are boring but practical. From Wine glass size in England from 1700 to 2017: a measure of our time:
I’d say martini glasses have increased significantly too - even since the 1960s. Any time my $14 martini is poured in anything smaller than a cup I need to use both hands to lift I get irritated. If I’m paying that much for a drink it better be a one and done type situation.
The size is because we no longer use decanters and instead the glass is doing the job.
This has me wondering if coffee cups were equally tiny. It would make the claim about Voltaire/Balzac’s coffee consumption a little more credible (and less fraught).
Useful reminder that the kind of people who are are both needy and entitled enough to seek elective office often are kinda shitty!
