I don't think there is much of a stigma, really. People just tend not to have long public transit commutes unless you live in certain areas. And I would never have something expensive like that out on a New York subway.

Historically, I would say that bad voice acting is correlated with poor writing and localization on the part of teams that had different ideas about the audience and goal of localization, or were culturally ignorant. That was 10 years or more ago, though.

True in some cases, but lack of comprehension can make one miss bad voice acting as well.

I can't help but roll my eyes when people who don't speak Japanese start up the whole (subs > dubs) thing. In many cases, the Japanese voice-over is not necessarily better. It's just weeaboos' inability to recognize bad acting in a language they can't understand. (and anyone who believes they "learned the language"
