Google paid $1 billion just to get Apple to keep using Google as the default search engine on iOS. One has nothing to do with the other.

Their net profit disparity as a % is far greater than gross profit. About $16m for Alphabet vs $53m for Apple. This article is so ridiculous; Apple could lose 2/3 of their sales and still have more revenue and net income than Google yet the author for some reason wants to say Apple’s in trouble because of lagging

Except Google isn't a bigger company. Apple could buy Google multiple times over. Apple has made more in a quarter of iPhone sales then android has in its entire existence. 60% of googles revenue comes from iOS devices.

Apparently you’re not aware of the fact that Apple sells more iPhones year after year. Yes, literally ever new version of the iPhone outsells the previous version. So, Apple is doing just fine. In fact, they’re more successful now than they’ve ever been in their entire existence.

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Sorry, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Relax. I said that stock market valuation doesn’t mean what a lot of people think it means, yourself included. Google and Apple are almost the same size now based on market cap, but Apple actually earns (that means profit) more than three times as much as Google does ($54 billion vs. $14.4 billion per year). Apple

The only really significant way Apple is hurting right now is stock valuation, so versus last year, that’s really the only way they’re worse off. Sales and earnings have consistently knocked it out of the park. Where they’ve lost iPad and iPod sales, they more than made up for it in iPhone sales.

That is at least a valid point. Compared to most of the people here who clearly have no idea what they’re talking about, you make a good point.

There was an article on Forbes?? Oh, well, then forget everything I said, lol.

One reason is while Google is everywhere (although it’s hard to say Apple isn’t), they don’t really charge that much for their services. Ads are ubiquitous but not really worth that much. The last 12 months Google has earned $71B in revenue and gross profit of $40 billion. On the other hand Apple earned $233B in

No.

I think you underestimate the influence of mobile Safari...

As an investor in both companies and someone who derives a sizable chunk of his income from Google Adsense (their publisher’s ad network), I and many web publishers feel strongly that Google is dramatically more vulnerable to economic collapse than Apple and many other tech industry heavyweights.

Reached for comment, Kevin Love said, “I can’t really defend his firing. Or the job he did as coach. ...Actually, I can’t defend anything. Please don’t ask me to.”

It’s like religion!

We may just be so lucky as to exist within the narrow span of geologic time here on Earth during which advanced life exists. The question then is, are there other habitable planets out there existing within their own brief temporal “Goldilocks Zones” right now?

No Mars had a magnetic field. However the planet died geologically and any nascent civilization perished with it.

I think Netflix would *love* to offer all its content in every country in the world.... but their hands are tied by industry (Hollywood)... and with their relationship with industry being their biggest asset, they have to appease them.

Chris, global licensing isn’t going to be happening anytime soon. And I’ll give you a perfect example for your Canadian/US Netflix comparison.
