“climatologist Peter Glacier”

For a lot of people who live and work in busy areas and cities, parking costs an arm and a leg. And another hip. So there’s that, or there literally IS NO PARKING WHATSOEVER, so why bother driving?

Exactly. Not sure why there’s so much consternation that he’s basically saying we’re building an ever more elaborate house of cards, and that someday a wind is gonna blow. There’s plenty of people who don’t want to bother themselves with the fact that our planet and its population are basically on life support. We

Honestly thought he was being optimistic, considering humanity’s detrimental impact on the climate and environment as a whole.

But he doesn’t have the solutions. No one does. That’s the problem.

I agree with Hawking on this, but that doesn’t mean I feel “down” about it. It is what it is. I do believe that humanity will toast itself at some point over the next thousand or so years...but it’s not like I’m losing sleep over it.

At the symphony I like to just sit, chill and listen, ideally in the dark, but to each his/her own. I don’t, however, like it when someone is holding a tablet or phone up in the air to record or snap pics and their bright screen and jerky arm are blocking my view.

That seems to be the only way humanity gets to work. We don’t take anything seriously until a huge disaster happens, small disasters don’t phase anyone. Problem is, the next disaster might be the last.

Maybe being a “bummer” is necessary. People like to bury their heads in the sand, so hearing unpleasant things repeatedly may be necessary to get people thinking about solutions rather than dismissing it.

If I was a cop I would prefer to carry a pistol when not on duty. I think they would be less likely to stop a robbery or shooter if they only have a taser.

Truth, saddly. I have a few friends who are officers in Chicago and the surrounding burbs. They are good guys. But the bad guys on the force have made their jobs incredably difficult. If 2% of the cops on the job are bad, 100% look bad and have to deal with the fallout. Their jobs become more difficult and that factor

“self-defense fears of white people”
Really? EVERYONE has the right to defend themselves. This is just racist BS right here. Additionally this isn’t a tool “to take the law into their own hands.” It’s the criminal who has done that. Quit victim blaming!

Actually, if you allow a dangerous suspect within about 21 feet, you are already dead. Google Tuller Drill for details.

I’m pretty sure making it *look* like a gun is a bad idea. People who know how to shoot a gun will have a gun, and people who don’t want a gun will not want something looking like a gun either. Plus, I wouldn’t want to be found by police with something looking like a gun, would be like a magnet for bullets.

Hell of a lot more trustworthy than a thrice bankrupt bellicose liar like Trump. Or Cruz, who claimed he didn’t remember to disclose a million dollars in loans for his Senatorial campaign from his wife’s employer, which just so happened to be Goldman Sachs, one of the biggest banks on Wall Street. Oh, and then he

From my experience, the conservatives who comment on blogs like this one have no interest at all in serious dialogue. They’ve already made up their minds (I use the term loosely), and all they really want is to poke fun at “liberals” because it distracts them from their own miserable lives.

Not being able to deliver on a promise because of people like John Boehner and Paul Ryan isn’t on Obama. That’s on the scumbag Republican obstructionists.

And his followers/apologists say that they like Trump because “he always tells the truth.”

Yeah, but then where would he hide his own money to dodge taxation?
