“You do not have to say ‘um’ on the internet.”
“You do not have to say ‘um’ on the internet.”
Totally agree about airplane mode. It’s amazing how liberating it is, even though I really don’t get a lot of texts or calls anyway. I guess just knowing that I “couldn’t” get a call for that period of time flips some kind of switch in my head.
For what it’s worth, I really like the combo of a small bluetooth keyboard and an iPhone in Airplane Mode. The screen is so small that it might as well be distraction free because it’s so hard to see anything on it, but then when you want to transfer what you’ve written to another program, it’s easy with Dropbox or…
Nooooo. I wrote a book longhand and totally regretted not using some kind of digital format. Would have saved a ton of time and effort later in editing.
For the record, the most ultra-successful investors don’t practice index investing at all (Buffett would refer to it as over-diversification), but I agree with the spirit of your point. Real life often has other plans for people, however, and timing is everything. Someone with children leaving for college or a sick…
Then I’ll correct this for you: “And then 5 years after 2008 [SMART] people who let their money stay invested [IN INDEX FUNDS] instead of pulling out low were already back ahead. And even at the 3 year mark, they only took a small loss.”
“...they only took a small loss.”
“Never fight people bigger than you...”
I understand the concepts, my friend. I just have a long enough memory to remember the crashes in 2000 and 2007/8 that caught millions of investors off guard who otherwise thought they had it figured out. ;)
Storing what could be money you’ll likely need within five years in any kind of securities-based investment account, whether mutual funds or stocks, is risky. Just ask the Chinese investors who didn’t see their current correction coming, which is turning out to be reminiscent of the correction that triggered our Great…
I know it’s physically possible to over-hydrate, but I’ve been around athletes my entire life and have never seen it happen. I have, on the other hand, seen probably hundreds of people get dehydrated.
Question: why do people steal anything?
I know you left this comment last year, but this was just an appalling thing to say, and totally unfounded based on what the original commenter had posted. People of Hawaii have the longest life expectancy of all 50 states. I was born and raised in Hawaii among a mixed Asian family, and people there love and eat a lot…
I know you’ll probably deny it, but I bet when the NYSE halted trading today you at least thought of our little conversation here and had a brief moment of — if not minor panic — concern.
Never said I don’t invest. Just said that investing in the market instead of paying down extra on a credit card is dangerous. Good luck to you.
Good luck with that. Smarter people than you thought they could time the market.
Liability?
“If the Men’s team had this racial makeup there would be thousands of column inches dedicated to it.”
Understood. I don’t follow deadspin, so I don’t know the history, but there are just so many shit fits everywhere these days. Too much public shaming and too many shit fits. I wish we could go back to the days when people would just roll their eyes.
Oh, just relax. It’s darned near impossible for a man to make that shot in a game, and at the height of athletics men are typically stronger than women. Equal rights doesn’t mean biological ignorance.
